Case Study Bookies OnlineIn 2006 Racing Victoria and the Victorian Bookmakers Association launched “Bookies Online”, in which nine bookmakers share one WAGERplayer installation and each offers their own sports and race betting. It gives them all the integrated services of an online WAGERplayer system but at only 1/9th of the infrastructure costs. The shared infrastructure works for the internet and on all the other betting channels that WAGERplayer provides. There are nine bookmakers at the races in Melbourne, all running off one system but all with individual branded websites and competing against each other. They share all the infrastructure costs, such as cost of hardware and cost of communications, so they are paying one-ninth of the expense of having a specific system. They can offer a full suite of products and they still have full security. BEToptions have effectively made Bookies Online nine separate systems, although there is the capacity to expand this to fifty if required. “The average Australian bookmaker simply doesn’t have enough money to launch out and buy a corporate internet betting system. These are the guys who are fighting to survive on the racetrack. For them to fork out A$100,000, plus running expenses, for an internet betting site was obviously not an option. so BEToptions looked at the design of our system and we’ve now changed it to allow multiple brands running on the same system. “WAGERplayer is an internet betting system that allows the bookmaker to have his traditional stand at the racetrack and, at the same time, maintain his odds on his internet site. If there’s racing in Melbourne the bookmaker can still service racing in Brisbane or Western Australia and update his odds on the web at the racetrack.” Not only is each bookmaker able to have a web and call centre presence, but the next stage is to allow them to take their on-course bets using betPOS, the WAGERplayer retail channel, this will allow one single point of control and risk management. Any bet that is placed with their book, through any channel, is displayed instantly, allowing them to know their current position and adjust their prices accordingly. The betPOS allows ease of operation for self-service customers and operators alike. |
